This black cat doll is based on the Mr. Midnight cat doll(s) seen in the AMAZING indie game Fran Bow! You can also easily customize your cat by using different colors or changing the lengths of the arms and legs or even tail. Please, feel free to get creative!
Pattern is in US English.
Materials and Supplies
- Worsted weight yarn in black, yellow for the eyes and a small amount of pink for the nose, or other desired color(s) for project, you may also want a small amount of white to stitch on eye highlights
- A large brown or gold button
- Size F crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Pins (optional, but recommended for positioning the parts before attaching)
- Stitch marker (optional, but recommended for marking the beginning/end of rnds)
- Four (4) smaller buttons (optional and only for if you want to have button joints or the illusion of button joints)
- Ch: chain
- Sc: single crochet
- Sl: slip stitch
- Inc: increase
- Dec: decrease
- St/sts: stitch/stitches
- Rnd/rnds: round/rounds
Whip stitch/running stitch can be used to join the pieces. You can use whichever you prefer. This is a good project to articulate the arms and legs. Button joints are also an option. Follow your heart.
Gauge: approx. 4 sts/in and 4 rows/in. but gauge is not all that important
Finished Mr. Midnight measures about 14” tall from ears to feet
Note: I worked in back loops only. You only need to do this if you want to exactly replicate my texture. Working in regular sc should not adversely affect your kitty. All rnds are continuous!
Also note: This doll does NOT have a functional belly pocket. You can feel free to add one in whatever method you choose but the belly flap is just for show and is stitched completely in place.
One more note: I articulated the arms and legs, but this is optional! You can create an illusion with small buttons added to the shoulders and hips. I did not include the instructions for making joints in this pattern, but there are lots of tutorials online!
